JF - Electronic Journal of Plant Breeding JA - EJPB VL - 4 IS - 2 SE - Research Note DO - UR - https://ejplantbreeding.org/index.php/EJPB/article/view/378 AB - A set of 105 diverse genotypes of chickpea was used to estimate correlation and path coefficient analysis for seed yield per plant and its ten component characters. The seed yield per plant had significant and positive correlation with number of pods per plant, biological yield per plant and harvest index at both genotypic and phenotypic levels. Among the component traits, biological yield per plant had significant and positive association with plant height, number of pods per plant and 100-seed weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that the maximum positive direct effect was observed for harvest index, followed by biological yield per plant, number of pods per plant, and 100-seed weight towards seed yield and were considered to be the most promising traits for selection for higher seed yield in chickpea.
